5DFoto Crystals

To support the graphic design work I produce for your5Dphoto, I also photograph many of the product samples to be used in both print and web media. These crystal engraving products are particularly difficult to capture cleanly, especially with minimal equipment. They must be carefully lit and positioned for reflections and only really photograph well against a dark background. I use various techniques depending on the size of the item. For some of the smaller trinkets I adapted macro filters to get closer and give a shallower depth of field. In some cases for larger items I adopted a circular polarising filter in order to tame some reflections in the glass, something you can’t change in post processing! The images are then processed with camera RAW and cleaned in Photoshop to remove any dust.
